The end of an era. Literally.
An Era of Becoming
Before the mighty Taylor Swift took the word into the stratosphere, the Dragonflies trilogy was an era for me.
A time of self-reflection, of a widening world of understanding. I fell in love with myself, with the people around me, and the world as a whole.
It was also, understandably, the beginning of another.
The Day It Ended
I finished Running on Empty the day I made the final decision to leave where I had been stuck. As I typed the final words, the ending, the moment I had been working toward for years, I got a text that the friends helping me move across the country had left their home state. I would pack all my furniture onto a trailer and meet them far, far away after my last day of work.
I remember because I had stopped typing and was staring at my screen when my phone buzzed. I have the image locked in my mind: the phone next to the laptop on the bed. Face up. The notification on the screen.
“All good. Mom and Dad left today.”
That was it. The beginning of a new chapter, a new era. The end of Dragonflies.
Together Until the End
Olivia, Greta, and Victoria change a lot throughout this series. Sometimes for the better, and sometimes for the worse. But no matter how they changed, they stayed together. Until the end.
Because, as the quote says on the main page:
Together, or not at all.
